Alton Road

Transformation from 70s to 20s

Completed in 2020 this project transformed an existing 1970s red brick house into a new home for a young family of 4. The decision to alter the existing house rather than knock it down and start again was straight forward. Originally built by a builder for himself, the existing structure was substantial due in part to the steep sloping site but also the belt and braces approach to the construction. This approach was not only more financially viable but it also saved huge amounts of embodied energy which is a factor that has become more and more important over recent years.

The resulting house is light and elegant opening up to large terraces on all three levels and making the most of the spectacular views of Poole Harbour and the Isle of Purbeck beyond.
