New house in a flood plain V2

During extensive negotiations with the Local Planning Authority, this design for a ‘villa’ was developed as an alternative to the original scheme to help move the discussions forward. Inspired by the plan form of Esherick House in Philadelphia by legendary architect Louis Khan the design was generated using the golden ratio to produce a home that is well proportioned, light, and most importantly easy to live in.

Although this scheme has a lot of merit, it was agreed that due to the enlarged footprint it would displace more water in the event of a flood and therefore detrimentally affect neighbouring properties, as well as being less resilient for the occupants. The Planning Authority eventually granted detailed planning permission for the original design.
